HVDC Project

 In Strategic projects

01. Project Summary

The Black Sea – North Sea Transmission Power Corridor, also known as the HVDC Project, and part of the Three Seas Initiative, is a strategically significant energy project for creating a high-capacity transmission infrastructure that connects the Black Sea region to Central and Eastern Europe, towards the North Sea. The project involves the design, construction, and implementation of 5.000 MW underground high-voltage direct current (HVDC) power line, running in parallel to existing key natural gas infrastructure in Romania (BRUA and Tuzla-Podișor gas pipelines).

02. Technology

The HVDC project uses advanced underground HVDC transmission to move large volumes of electricity over long distances with high efficiency and low losses. The system consists of: 2 x HVDC 525 kV, 2 -2.5 GW power capacity each and multi-modular half-bridge Voltage Source Converter (VSC) stations for flexible integration into the AC network.
